20-point heating check

  1. Check thermostat operation

  2. Visually inspect heat exchanger

  3. Check air filter (air cleaner and/or filter media)

  4. Check blower motor. If applicable, oil bearing, check belt, bearings, and pulley

  5. Check blower wheel for cleanliness

  6. Check pilot ignition sequence (clean and adjust pilot)

  7. Check main burner operation, clean burners, gas pressure

  8. Check fan switch/heating fan relay operation

  9. Cycle the furnace off and record “fan off”

  10. Check flue draft on natural draft furnaces

  11. Check flue spill switch operation

  12. Check draft safeguard switch operation

  13. Check furnace temperature rise

  14. Check primary limit operation

  15. Check auxiliary limit switch operation

  16. Fire furnace and leak check gas line from manual safety shut off

  17. Perform combustion air test to ensure there is enough ventilation to replace air used for combustion

  18. Clean furnace cabinet

  19. Operate the furnace through 1 complete cycle

  20. Check humidifier operation
